Saddest Parts of the Movie

Many of you have commented on how much this movie makes you cry. It makes me cry too...and every single time! I think that is why this movie has such a huge following. This movie was not made by Lifetime. It originally premiered on NBC. It was a high drama movie. The music just makes you break down in tears. I don't think anyone could have played the parents better than Patty Duke and Martin Sheen. Patty Duke captured the very essence of Mary Brown. I was told that Martin Sheen wanted Jack to appear "less likeable" in the film. The grandmother's portrayal was far from what the real lady was like according to sources.

The parts that make me cry everytime
1. The scene where Mary Brown is at the window and Chris is leaving
2. The part where Mary Brown screams and drops to the floor as Dusty tells her that Chris has been killed.
3. The entire funeral scene...especially when Jack tries to help Mary up, and she refuses to go with him, and he just walks away, and then he turns around to look at her one more time as if he is helpless.
4. The scene where Mary blames Jack. He looks hurt to the core, and he finally blames himself for letting Chris go.

What are the saddest parts for you?

All of the parts that you mentioned are very sad, but one of the most saddest for me is when the Marines bring Chris's body back to the states in the coffin, the military funeral, and the whole situation of Chrissy..mainly when she was kidnapped from Mary and Jack..as if they hadnt been thru enough..

The Biggest part for me was when they were unloading Chris's body off the plane.

I can identify with this because in 2009 (and 2011) my husband and I buried our son. We had him cremated and when he was ready to be picked up we went back to the funeral home. The lady went downstairs to get him and I was sort of ok that day up until that point. Then when she brought his baby block urn in I lost it.

Still hurts almost 3 years later. He now has a baby sister who joined him in heaven last year. I think we could handle their loss so much better if we didn't have empty arms.

Elisabeth, I am so sorry that you had to experience this personally, that was also the saddest part for me of the movie, along with the music..May your babies Rest In Peace...so sorry for your losses..

Mary losing Chrissy to the kidnapping was very sad to watch.

The saddest parts to watch was when Chris in the movie came home to see his wife and child and his daughter is walking around screaming and crying and is in what looks like a over soiled diaper and clothing from her diaper being soiled for over 2 hours. The other scene was the scene leading to the funeral where they're lowering the casket off the plane for burial, the look on Patty Dukes face as Mary Brown was heartbreaking, then the funeral and score music as the gun salute is happening and Chris's daughter starts fussing and crying and Mary says "baby its okay, it's for your daddy, its to honor your daddy," but she's unconsolable

I'd have to say Mary watching Chris leaving through the window and the phone call learning of his death...watching her pick up all the gun shells off the ground had me balling as well...

To feisty mama: You said the saddest part of the movie was when Chris's body was brought back to the states. I must have missed something. What country was Chris in beforehand?

The whilw movie was sad but the saddest part for me was when mother Mary was trying to call Chris and he was being killed as she was trying to get him on the phone. Before his death another time she tried to call to talk to him and Dusty wouldn't let her talk to him. Dusty knew that Mary was crazy about Chris and didn't want him to deal with his mother and then she turns around and have him killed.

All the parts you mention but the scene where he is a little boy fishing with his Dad and then runs to show Mom his catch....the killing scene with the phone ringing and then the long shot if the vicious stabbing Chris got
